Gleeson Recruitment Group was named 19th best small company to work for in the UK by the Sunday Times in 2020.

Set up in 2011 by three directors, Jason Granger, Jason Blakey and Tony Gleeson, Gleeson has grown from five employees to now over 85 and has seen rapid growth over this time thanks to its inward investment and focus on employee happiness.

A number of factors were considered in the rankings, but Gleeson was particularly commended for its environmental initiatives, community initiatives and employee rewards.

Gleeson offers all staff a 4.5 day working week, with ample opportunity to work from home so that the company reduces its emissions and the amount of time staff spend sat in traffic congestion. In addition to this environmental initiative, the office is powered by 100% renewable energy, with motion censored lights and a filtered water system to cut down plastic bottle usage.

The recruitment firm choose a charity every two years that they fundraise for collectively. For 2019/2020 the chosen charity is Macmillan, which they have raised over £11,000 for so far.

As well as these environmental and community initiatives, the company prides itself on continuously improving the quality of working life for employees, with a vast range of perks including an onsite gym, weekly yoga sessions, fortnightly masseur and quarterly inclusive social events.

The Top 100 ranking marks the end of a strong all-round year for Gleeson, with the firm seeing a turnover of £17.3 million and achieving a year-on-year growth of 42%. This continued success has led to the expansion of group’s Birmingham and Reading offices to accommodate growth.

Jason Blakey, director at Gleeson, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have been listed in the Sunday Times rankings. We’ve worked hard to ensure our team love coming to work every day and to implement staff suggestions on how to make this the best workplace possible. Our employees are what make our company, so we’re very proud to have this award and be recognised for our commitment to them.”
