In-House Corporate Tax Manager | Hertfordshire
Your next move: run UK corporation tax for a global engineering business
Most tax roles give you a slice of the process. This one gives you the whole thing. Working for a major international engineering group as their UK Corporate Tax Compliance Manager. You will run the process from the first data request to the final HMRC submission, across every UK entity in the group (working with finance colleagues).
You'll report to a Finance Director, work closely with senior leaders, and be trusted to get things done. If you're a technically strong tax professional who enjoys ownership, thrives on deadlines and brings a real "can do" attitude, read on.
Who we're looking for
You're a qualified accountant or tax adviser (ACA, ACCA and/or CTA) with deep UK corporation tax expertise and recent, hands-on experience from either a Big 4 firm, a leading mid-tier practice or a large corporate. You understand corporate tax accounting, have a good grasp of taxes beyond corporation tax, and are comfortable with finance and tax technology. Alphatax experience would be a real advantage.
Just as important is how you work. You're a self-starter who manages projects well, communicates clearly in writing and in person, and can explain complex tax positions to senior stakeholders without losing them. When something doesn't look right, you're confident enough to challenge it constructively.
What the role involves
The compliance cycle
- Gather, test and consolidate tax data from site teams across the business
- Oversee UK entity tax computations and returns through to submission, performing the first review yourself
- Prepare and file all relevant claims and elections
- Handle the group's tax payment arrangements
Group-level technical work
- Calculate the group's corporate interest restriction position
- Allocate group relief and track loss positions across the entities
- Manage tax on foreign exchange within the UK
- Keep a watchful eye on CFC exposure
Reporting and risk
- Review tax disclosures in the UK entities' statutory accounts
- Support uncertain tax provisions and the evidence behind them
- Assist with HMRC risk reviews and enquiries
Relationships
- Act as the main day-to-day contact with HMRC on UK compliance
- Work with external advisers on R&D and patent box matters
- Partner with management and auditors throughout the year
What's in it for you
- Real breadth, with R&D, patent box, CIR, CFC and group relief all in one role
- Direct exposure to Senior Finance and wider leadership
- A genuine ownership remit rather than a supporting one
- Generous salary and benefits scheme
