About the Role
I am seeking a highly motivated Transport Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day running of our busy Trafford Park operation. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in managing people, performance, and compliance within a fast-paced logistics environment.
As Transport Operations Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient, safe, and cost-effective running of the transport function, while delivering excellent service to our customers.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, manage and develop the transport team, including planners, supervisors, and drivers.
Ensure legal compliance with all transport and driver legislation (including DVSA, tachograph, WTD, O-Licence).
Oversee daily planning and scheduling to maximise fleet utilisation and deliver on-time, in-full (OTIF) performance.
Monitor KPIs and implement continuous improvement initiatives to drive service and cost efficiency.
Ensure effective driver engagement, training, and performance management.
Work closely with the wider operations and warehouse teams to ensure smooth end-to-end service delivery.
Manage fleet maintenance and ensure vehicles are roadworthy, compliant, and cost-efficient.
Drive a positive safety culture, ensuring adherence to H&S policies at all times.
Support senior management with budget control, reporting, and strategic projects.
About You
We're looking for a driven and hands-on transport professional who thrives in a fast-moving environment.
Essential Skills & Experience:
Proven experience in a transport management/operations management role within logistics.
- General Haulage & Pallet Network experience (Essential)
Strong working knowledge of transport legislation, compliance, and O-Licence responsibilities.
Experience managing and motivating large driver teams in a busy, multi-drop/haulage environment.
Excellent planning, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
Strong commercial awareness with the ability to balance cost control with service delivery.
Confident communicator with the ability to engage at all levels.
Desirable:
CPC in Road Transport Operations (National/International).
Experience working within a 3PL or large-scale logistics business.
