The Role

As Private Client Tax Manager, you will oversee a diverse client base including high‑net‑worth individuals, families, business owners, non‑doms, and trusts. You'll take the lead on advisory projects while managing the delivery of compliance work through your team.

This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys balancing technical complexity with building strong client relationships in a friendly, mid‑sized practice environment.

Key Responsibilities

Client Management & Advisory

  • Manage a portfolio of private clients including HNWIs, non‑doms, entrepreneurs, and family groups.
  • Provide advisory work across IHT planning, CGT, estate planning, residency and domicile, succession planning, and structuring.
  • Lead on tax planning projects and present clear recommendations to clients.
  • Act as first point of contact for client queries and build long‑term trusted relationships.

Compliance Oversight

  • Review complex personal tax returns prepared by the team.
  • Oversee trust and estate tax compliance where required.
  • Ensure all work is completed to quality standards and HMRC deadlines.
  • Identify opportunities for tax efficiencies and additional advisory projects.

Team Leadership

  • Manage and mentor a team of three (mixed levels).
  • Review work, provide technical guidance, and support their development.
  • Assist in workload planning and ensuring efficient workflow across the team.

Practice & Commercial Responsibilities

  • Work closely with partners on client strategies and technical matters.
  • Contribute to business development, proposals, and onboarding of new clients.
  • Maintain strong technical knowledge and stay up‑to‑date with legislative changes.

About You

  • Experienced personal/private client tax professional, ideally CTA or STEP qualified (or qualified by experience).
  • Strong background in managing a private client portfolio within practice.
  • Confident delivering advisory work and dealing with complex tax issues.
  • Experience mentoring or leading staff.
  • Approachable, relationship‑driven, and comfortable in a client‑facing role.

What's on Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Genuine progression to Senior Manager for the right person.
  • Supportive, friendly practice with excellent work‑life balance.
  • Exposure to a wide range of advisory work, not just compliance.
