Senior Sales Ledger Clerk - Edgbaston - Hybrid Working - ASAP start

This is such a lovely role to be recruiting for - the reason this vacancy exists is because someone who has been with the business for over ten years is retiring. They've genuinely loved their job, loved the team and loved the organisation, and the only reason they're leaving is to enjoy retirement. That alone says so much about the culture here and what a brilliant environment you'll be stepping into.

You'll be joining a highly supportive, close-knit finance team where everyone helps each other out and where your contribution really matters. This is a standalone Sales Ledger position, meaning you'll be taking the lead on the role; owning the billing and cash allocation process and ensuring the ledger runs smoothly. The role has a senior feel and focuses heavily on billing, cash allocation, reconciliations and maintaining the accuracy of a busy ledger. This vacancy is being recruited on a temp-to-perm basis simply due to timing; because the post-holder is leaving soon, the business ideally need someone who can join quickly. Perfect for someone immediately available or on a short notice period.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take full ownership of the billing process, including managing customer portals
  • Review, challenge and correct payment allocations where remittances or portal suggestions are inaccurate
  • Complete bank reconciliations and supplier/customer statement reconciliations
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date ledger records
  • Support with cash allocation and ensure all payments are coded and allocated correctly
  • Handle a range of back-office Accounts Receivable duties
  • Lead the position and step in to support colleagues when needed - the team genuinely pull together
  • Support the Finance Manager with month-end tasks and reporting
  • Uphold strong financial controls and contribute to improving existing processes

Candidate Attributes and Skills:

  • A strong amount of experience in Accounts Receivable or Sales Ledger would be preferred, ideally five to ten years - although this is not essential
  • Confident handling billing, reconciliations and cash allocation
  • Experience working with customer portals and remittances is desirable
  • Excellent accuracy, with a love for a tidy, well-balanced ledger
  • A supportive team player who enjoys helping others and being helped in return
  • Strong communication skills and confidence challenging incorrect allocations
  • Able to start immediately or on a short notice period

Benefits:

  • Hybrid working: 2 days a week in the South Birmingham office, 3 days from home
  • Super flexible hours - start early/finish early or start late/finish late
  • Excellent annual leave allowance
  • Private medical cover
  • Strong pension scheme
  • Supportive, friendly, long-standing finance team

Summary:
A genuinely lovely temp-to-perm opportunity in South Birmingham, created due to a long-standing team member retiring, perfect for someone looking for a standalone, lead Sales Ledger role in a supportive, flexible workplace where they can take real ownership and make a difference.
