Senior Management Accountant
Cheltenham (Hybrid Working)
£45,000 - £60,000 + Benefits
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and commercially minded Senior Management Accountant to join a growing and ambitious organisation based in Cheltenham. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role offers the chance to take ownership of the month-end management accounting process while playing a key role in finance transformation projects, process improvement initiatives and the integration of newly acquired businesses.
This is an ideal position for a qualified accountant who enjoys combining strong technical accounting expertise with commercial insight and business partnering.
The Role
As Senior Management Accountant, you will be responsible for delivering accurate and timely financial reporting, supporting strategic decision-making and helping drive continuous improvement across the finance function.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Producing monthly management accounts, including variance analysis and insightful commentary
- Preparing and posting month-end journals, accruals and prepayments
- Maintaining balance sheet reconciliations and resolving reconciling items
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting and cash flow reporting activities
- Preparing VAT returns and assisting with statutory accounts and year-end audit processes
- Partnering with operational stakeholders to provide financial insight and challenge
- Strengthening financial controls, processes and reporting capabilities
- Supporting ERP and finance system improvement projects
- Playing a key role in finance transformation and business integration initiatives
- Managing and developing a Finance Analyst, providing support, guidance and coaching
About You
We're looking for someone who can bring both technical accounting expertise and a proactive, improvement-focused mindset.
You will ideally have:
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification (or be qualified by experience)
- Strong management accounting experience within a fast-paced environment
- Experience producing management accounts and balance sheet reconciliations
- Knowledge of VAT reporting and statutory accounting requirements
- Experience supporting audits and working with external stakeholders
- Previous people management or mentoring experience
- Strong Excel and finance systems skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
- A hands-on approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
