Gleeson Recruitment Group is partnering with a fast-paced, growing retail business to recruit an experienced HR Advisor to support its regional people function. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded HR professional with a strong background in employee relations to join an operationally focused business, working closely with the HR Business Partner to deliver effective, consistent and commercially focused HR support across the retail region. The role will suit someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, is confident managing a varied ER caseload and understands the importance of providing practical, solutions-focused advice to managers operating in a fast-moving, people-led business.
The Role
Working in partnership with the HR Business Partner, you will provide hands-on HR advice and support across the retail region, with a particular emphasis on employee relations, case management and coaching operational managers.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing a varied employee relations caseload, including disciplinary, grievance, absence management, performance and capability matters.
- Providing clear, commercially focused advice to line managers on complex and sensitive people issues, ensuring a fair and consistent approach.
- Supporting and guiding managers through investigations, formal hearings and the appropriate HR processes.
- Coaching and developing managers to build confidence in handling employee relations matters effectively.
- Advising on employment legislation, HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance and minimising risk to the business.
- Working closely with the HR Business Partner to support people priorities and deliver a consistent HR service across the region.
- Identifying employee relations trends and recurring issues, using insight to recommend improvements and preventative action.
- Supporting wider HR initiatives and projects as required, contributing to the continuous improvement of people processes.
- Building strong relationships with stakeholders across the retail operation, providing a responsive and practical HR service.
About You
You will be an experienced HR professional with a strong generalist background and, in particular, demonstrable experience managing employee relations cases from initial advice through to resolution. You will be confident working with operational managers, able to influence decision-making and comfortable balancing employee needs with commercial priorities in a fast-paced environment. Ideally, you will have experience within retail, care or a similarly operational, people-intensive sector, where pace, employee relations and effective management support are central to the role.
You will also demonstrate:
- Strong end-to-end employee relations case management experience.
- A sound understanding of UK employment legislation and HR best practice.
- Experience supporting managers with investigations, disciplinaries, grievances, absence and performance management.
- The ability to build credibility and develop effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- A pragmatic, resilient and solutions-focused approach, with the confidence to challenge and influence where appropriate.
- Excellent communication, organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage competing demands.
