This is an exciting opportunity to join a large distribution business in Walsall as a Payroll Assistant. With roughly 12,000 employees across the group, you'll be exposed to a wide range of payroll processes, and you'll play a vital role in ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time.

This position is initially temporary, but the business are currently exploring permanent recruitment. That means if you join and do a great job, there's a very strong chance you'll secure a permanent opportunity here. Key Responsibilities

  • Support the accurate and timely processing of both hourly and salaried payrolls.
  • Assist with payroll runs on a 4-weekly (hourly staff) and monthly (salaried staff) cycle.
  • Handle payroll queries from employees and line managers, escalating complex issues where required.
  • Support with statutory payments such as SSP, SMP, and SPP.
  • Work with manual tax calculations if needed.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure compliance with GDPR and payroll legislation.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across payroll, HR, and finance to resolve queries.
  • Contribute to payroll checks, reporting, and validation processes.
  • Keep up to date with payroll procedures and changes in legislation.

Candidate Attributes and Skills

  • Familiar with working in a high-volume payroll function within a larger organisation.
  • Strong Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and V-lookups.
  • Confident with payroll processes, but you don't need years of deep experience - just a solid grounding.
  • A real team player, willing to support colleagues and share knowledge.
  • Well organised, detail-oriented, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Available at short notice and open to temporary-to-permanent opportunities.
