HR Advisor | Birmingham - Fully Office Based | Manufacturing | £40K to £44K
We are recruiting for an experienced HR Advisor to join a busy and fast-paced manufacturing environment in Birmingham. Reporting to the HR Manager, this is a broad HR Advisor position providing hands-on support across the employee lifecycle, with a particular focus on Employee Relations, recruitment, absence management and HR administration. You will work closely with managers, employees and union representatives, providing practical and timely HR advice while supporting the wider HR team across a range of people initiatives. This would suit an experienced HR Advisor who enjoys working in a hands-on, operational environment and is comfortable managing a varied workload and dealing with Employee Relations matters.
The Role
As HR Advisor, you will provide day-to-day HR support across the business, with responsibilities including:
- Supporting disciplinary, grievance, capability and performance management processes, including investigations, note-taking, report writing and advising managers.
- Providing day-to-day advice and guidance to managers and employees on HR and employment matters.
- Managing the end-to-end recruitment process for a range of roles, from requisition through to offer and onboarding.
- Working with recruitment agencies, negotiating rates and identifying cost-effective recruitment solutions.
- Managing interview processes, including telephone screening, competency-based interviews and assessment centres.
- Coordinating pre-employment checks, testing and offer documentation.
- Managing the temporary labour population, including agency relationships, invoicing, pre-employment medicals and performance reviews.
- Monitoring the effectiveness and performance of temporary recruitment agencies.
- Coordinating new starter inductions, ensuring all HR documentation, right-to-work checks, terms and conditions and company policies are completed appropriately.
- Managing and supporting absence management, including Occupational Health referrals, health surveillance, return-to-work processes and case management reviews.
- Providing administrative support across pay, benefits, pensions, starters and leavers.
About You
We're looking for an HR professional who is confident operating in a fast-paced, operational environment and has a strong grounding in Employee Relations.
You'll ideally have:
- CIPD Level 5 qualification or equivalent.
- Previous experience working in an HR Advisor or similar HR role.
- Experience within a manufacturing, engineering or other fast-paced operational environment would be advantageous.
- Proven experience managing a high volume of Employee Relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance, capability and performance issues.
- Strong practical knowledge of UK employment law.
- Experience working with managers and employees at all levels.
- Experience working within a unionised environment would be beneficial.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
- A proactive, practical and solutions-focused approach to HR.
