Interim Head of Finance (6-Month Contract)
Start Date: 3rd November
Location: Hybrid - 50% office (Birmingham), 50% home-based
Working Pattern: 4.5 days per week
We are seeking a qualified accountant to backfill the current Head of Finance while she undertakes a secondment. This is a pivotal role within a grant-giving charity comprising three independent charities, consolidated for accounting purposes. The organisation is permanently endowed, with an investment portfolio of approximately 100 properties.
This is not a straightforward accounting role - we are looking for someone with strong strategic oversight and financial leadership, ideally with third sector experience. The charity operates on a quarterly income cycle, requiring quarterly management accounts and robust financial planning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the finance function, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting across all entities.
- Oversee quarterly management accounts and support strategic financial decision-making.
- Manage the consolidation of accounts across the three charities.
- Monitor and report on the performance of the property investment portfolio.
- Collaborate with grant-making teams to ensure financial compliance and transparency.
- Maintain strong financial controls and risk management practices.
Requirements:
- Fully qualified accountant (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
- Proven experience in charity finance, ideally within the third sector.
- Strong understanding of endowment and investment accounting.
- Experience with consolidated accounts and property portfolios.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
