General Manager - Container Transport

Location: South East
Salary: £70,000 - £90,000 + Car Allowance + Bonus + Benefits

A well-established container transport and logistics business is seeking a General Manager to lead one of its key operational sites in the South East.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an ambitious transport professional looking to take on broader operational responsibility within a specialist container operation. The business is entering a new phase of development, with a clear focus on operational excellence, sustainable growth and building a strong leadership team for the future.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the successful candidate will take responsibility for the day-to-day performance of a busy container transport operation, ensuring service excellence, operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the operational team, including planners, drivers and subcontractor relationships.
• Drive operational performance, utilisation and service delivery.
• Build strong relationships with customers, suppliers and key stakeholders.
• Manage site performance against financial and operational objectives.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and help shape future growth plans.
• Promote a positive, accountable and high-performing culture.

About You

• Proven experience within the container transport sector is essential.
• Currently operating as a General Manager, Depot Manager, Operations Manager, Transport Manager, Senior Planner or similar.
• Strong understanding of port operations, container planning and transport compliance.
• Commercially aware with the ability to balance service and profitability.
• Hands-on, practical and capable of leading from the front.
• Ambitious, energetic and keen to make a long-term impact within a growing business.
