Employment Associate (2-5 PQE)

Permanent | Birmingham (Hybrid Working)

A role for an ambitious employment lawyer who wants real variety, responsibility, and exposure.

This is an opportunity to join a highly regarded national employment practice where no two days look the same. You'll work closely with experienced partners and senior lawyers, advising major employers on a broad mix of strategic advisory work, corporate support, and contentious matters, including your own Employment Tribunal caseload.

The team acts for household-name organisations across retail, sport, manufacturing and financial services, many with international footprints. The work is genuinely interesting, often high-profile, and increasingly cross-border in nature.

The role

You'll advise employers on the full lifecycle of employment law, including:

  • Day-to-day HR and strategic advisory matters

  • Supporting corporate transactions (TUPE, restructures, integrations)

  • Managing Employment Tribunal claims from early conciliation through to hearing

  • Drafting contracts, policies, settlement agreements and board-level advice

  • Working directly with clients and building trusted relationships

  • Contributing to business development, client training and profile-raising initiatives

This is a hands-on role offering early responsibility, excellent supervision, and clear scope to develop your own practice.

About you

You're likely to be:

  • An employment solicitor with at least 2 years' PQE

  • Trained at a reputable firm or with strong in-house experience

  • Confident handling contentious and non-contentious matters

  • Commercially minded, practical, and solutions-focused

  • Comfortable working directly with clients and keen to deepen those relationships

Tribunal experience and advocacy exposure are welcomed but not essential - what matters most is enthusiasm, judgement, and a desire to grow.

Why this role stands out

  • A true mix of advisory, corporate and tribunal work

  • Exposure to major national and international employers

  • A collaborative, supportive team with real investment in development

  • High-quality work without the rigid hierarchy of larger teams

  • A platform to build a long-term career, not just your next move
