Gleeson has partnered with a cutting-edge manufacturing business to recruit a proactive and technically skilled Automation & Controls Engineer.

This is a unique opportunity for an engineer passionate about automation, robotics, and control systems to play a pivotal role in maintaining and improving high-performance equipment across a fast-paced production environment.
In this hands-on role, you'll lead fault diagnosis, mentor junior technicians, and drive continuous improvement across automated systems. With exposure to advanced engineering practices and cross-functional collaboration, this position offers a clear pathway to senior engineering roles and technical leadership.

Package :

  • Salary: From £50,000 + 18% Shift Bonus (OTE £59-60k)

Shift :

  • 7:30 PM to 7:30 AM ( Sunday to Wednesday / Wednesday to Saturday )

Key Responsibilities:

  • Actively monitor, diagnose, and repair automation and control systems to maintain high equipment uptime.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on robotics, control panels, and automated systems.
  • Troubleshoot complex equipment issues, escalate when necessary, and serve as a technical escalation point for junior technicians.
  • Document all maintenance activities in CMMS and ticketing systems accurately and promptly.
  • Mentor maintenance personnel, enhancing their skills in automation, controls, and robotics.
  • Lead root cause analysis for major downtime events and drive corrective actions.
  • Serve as a network-wide resource for technical issues and lead cross-site investigations.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams during commissioning of new control systems.
  • Audit vendor work and provide feedback on quality and SLA adherence.
  • Develop and standardise preventive maintenance procedures to improve effectiveness.

Ideal Experience:

  • Solid practical understanding or formal qualification in Mechatronics, Electrical & Electronic, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Proven experience in automation, mechanical, or maintenance engineering within a manufacturing or production environment
  • Proficient in PLC-controlled systems and automated processes, including programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance of PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and related control systems.
  • Skilled in interpreting technical manuals, engineering drawings, and schematics.
  • Experienced in both reactive and preventive maintenance, with a strong track record in handling second-line escalations.
  • Familiar with CMMS systems and material handling technologies, including flow analysis and process monitoring.
  • Confident communicator and mentor, capable of coaching junior engineers and acting as a proxy for senior automation engineers.
  • Experienced in leading Root Cause Analysis and supporting Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives.
  • Knowledge of DIQ and WMS systems is a plus.
