Salary: £30,000 to £35,000 per annumbase

About the Firm

We're supporting a respected small to medium sized Chartered Accountancy Practice in Berkshire with a strong reputation for developing staff and providing a diverse, hands‑on workload.
The firm works with clients ranging from 1‑man‑bands, partnerships and small limited companies through to £10-15 million turnover businesses across a range of sectors.

Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit an Audit & Accounts Semi‑Senior who enjoys a varied role combining audit work, accounts preparation and some bookkeeping duties.

The Role

This is a genuinely mixed position offering exposure across the full spectrum of general practice work. You'll support Managers and Seniors on audit assignments, prepare accounts for a wide range of clients, and assist with bookkeeping when required.

It's an ideal step for someone studying towards AAT or ACA/ACCA, or equivalent, who wants strong client exposure and real progression opportunities within a supportive firm.

Key Responsibilities

Audit (30-40%)

  • Assist in planning, fieldwork and completion of audit assignments
  • Conduct testing, gather audit evidence and document findings
  • Work onsite at client premises as required (mainly local)
  • Liaise with clients to resolve queries during the audit process

Accounts Preparation (40-50%)

  • Prepare year‑end statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships and SMEs
  • Draft corporation tax computations (training provided if needed)
  • Work closely with Senior staff to finalise accounts for partner review

Bookkeeping & VAT (10-20%)

  • Perform bookkeeping duties for a mix of clients
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns
  • Maintain accurate financial records using cloud accounting software

Client Base

You'll gain exposure across a varied and interesting portfolio including:

  • Sole traders and freelancers
  • Small Ltd companies across multiple industries
  • Owner‑managed businesses
  • Groups and entities up to £10-15 million turnover

This variety provides excellent technical development and career broadening.

What They're Looking For

  • Experience in audit and accounts within an accountancy practice
  • Studying towards AAT / ACA / ACCA (full study support available)
  • Strong knowledge of bookkeeping and cloud software (Xero)
  • Good communication skills and a willingness to learn
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a tight‑knit team
