Assistant Accountant
Birmingham | Hybrid Working | Permanent Up to £35k + Option for Study Support
Are you looking for a varied and rounded finance position? We're recruiting an Assistant Accountant to join a growing finance team in Birmingham. Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, this role offers the opportunity to become heavily involved in the production of month-end accounts while maintaining oversight of key finance operations.
This is an ideal opportunity for an ambitious finance professional who enjoys getting into the detail, taking ownership of reconciliations and supporting the production of accurate management information.
The Opportunity
As Assistant Accountant, you'll play a key role in supporting the month-end close process, ensuring the integrity of financial information and helping the finance team deliver accurate and timely reporting.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting with monthly management accounts preparation
- Preparing accruals and prepayments
- Completing balance sheet reconciliations and investigating variances
- Reviewing financial postings and maintaining ledger accuracy
- Supporting VAT returns and finance compliance requirements
- Assisting with payroll administration and monthly payroll checks
- Ensuring all month-end deadlines are achieved
- Supporting audit preparation and financial control
- Purchase ledger processing and supplier reconciliations
- Sales ledger administration and customer account management
- Bank reconciliations and cash management
- Employee expenses and corporate card reconciliations
- Purchase order administration and controls
- Finance inbox management and query resolution
About You
We're keen to speak with candidates who have experience within an Assistant Accountant, Accounts Assistant or Finance Officer position.
You will ideally possess:
- Experience supporting month-end processes - Accruals, Prepayments, Journal Entries
- Strong reconciliation skills
- Purchase ledger and sales ledger experience
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong Excel skills
- A proactive and organised approach
- Studying AAT, ACCA or CIMA
