Assistant Accountant

Up to £45,000 + Study Support | Permanent | Hybrid | Birmingham Business Park - Free Parking Onsite

We're partnered with a highly successful, internationally operating organisation seeking an ambitious Assistant Accountant to join their finance team. This is a broad, career‑building role supporting FP&A, Group Reporting, Treasury and Financial Control-offering a rare level of cross‑functional exposure.

You'll work closely with finance team while collaborating with senior stakeholders across the wider business, making this a fantastic platform the future.

What you'll be doing

A genuinely varied mix of responsibilities, including:

Financial Planning & Reporting

  • Assisting with budgeting and forecasting, including variance analysis
  • Contributing to monthly board reporting
  • Supporting Group‑wide statutory accounts preparation

Treasury & Controls

  • Supporting cashflow forecasting and treasury reporting
  • Preparing and reconciling balance sheet accounts
  • Assisting with VAT returns and ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements

Core Accounting Duties

  • Processing accounts payable invoices
  • Preparing and posting journals (accruals, prepayments, adjustments)
  • Processing intercompany invoices
  • Supporting audits with documentation and query responses

Business Support & Projects

  • Providing ad‑hoc analysis for senior stakeholders
  • Collaborating with suppliers and internal teams to resolve queries
  • Getting involved in wider finance initiatives and improvement projects

About You

We're looking for someone who is studying towards an accounting qualification (ACCA / CIMA / ACA). You will also bring:

  • Strong numeracy and analytical ability
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Solid grounding in accounting principles
  • Confident Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, PivotTables, formulas)
  • Strong communication and teamwork
  • Ability to prioritise in a deadline‑driven environment
  • Experience in a finance or accounts environment (beneficial but not essential)
