Senior Commercial Analyst

Key Accountabilities

  • Deliver robust financial models to support bids/ customer proposals, collaborating across the business to scope project requirements, technical solution, cost inputs and the risk profile
  • Ensure project risks and opportunities are understood and quantified, risk profile and mitigations are articulated
  • Implement a suite of pre-audited financial models for wider use across the business
  • Provide financial and commercial support to developing new commercial propositions
  • Produce financial assessment of operational projects and business cases
  • Drive lessons learnt on projects including areas for commercial / financial improvements and insight on actual project performance
  • Provide commercial / financial expertise and assurance in support of sales governance
  • Produce presentations to leadership team / Board packs outlining analysis, insight and recommendations; present at relevant leadership team forums
  • Educate other members of the finance team and the wider business community in Excel and financial modelling best practice
  • Develop and recommend improvements to the financial modelling process, including assurance and review of financial outputs; develop and implement financial modelling best practice
  • Support on ad hoc business initiatives providing commercial and financial analytical support, including MI, budgeting and forecasting

Essential technical and professional skills, knowledge and qualifications


  • University degree educated
  • Financial / accounting professional qualifications (CA, CFA, CIMA, etc)


  • Expert Excel skills
  • Expert financial modelling capability including experience of building P&L and cashflow statements in Excel linked to cost inputs
  • Ability to perform financial analysis for the project including key financial ratios, sensitivity analysis and benchmarking
  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles
  • Reasonable business / commercial awareness
  • Capacity to handle demanding and fluctuating workload, strong time management skills
  • Thoroughness and attention to detail with steadiness under pressure
  • Demonstrable track record of effective working within a team
  • Adequate communication skills to enable working with a range of stakeholders across the business
  • Demonstrable track record in problem solving


  • Experience of effective working in bid teams
  • Financial reporting expertise and knowledge of IFRS
  • Background in Telecoms
  • M&A experience
