Job Purpose:

To produce CNC programs for Machine Shop, making sure they are supported by all relevant documentation including tool lists, set up sheets and fixture design. Assist with any technical issues in the Manufacturing areas, monitor stock levels of tooling and make sure all machine maintenance is up to date. To price and accept / reject prospective work and plan its schedule through the machine shop.

Key Accountabilities

  • Produce CNC programs and any other information for shop floor on request
  • Help ensure a smooth day to day running of the small batch based manufacturing operation which includes one off prototype work
  • Professional interface with other departments
  • Scheduling and pricing of work
  • Liaison with Designers, buyers, internal and external customers
  • Meet challenging deadlines within Manufacturing Dept.
  • Ensure that all material, tooling and program information for manufacturing purposes is controlled
  • Focus on continuous improvement at all times
  • Be available for "out of hours" support for weekend / night shift
  • Help ensure health and safety legislation is adhered to in manufacturing areas and kept up to date
  • Ensure all machines are well maintained whilst keeping all relevant documentation up to date
  • Ensure image and quality of the facility is adhered to and linked to the fact that the area is to become a leading edge, high tech facility


Professional qualifications / training

  • Must have over 3 years' programming with Hypermill CAD/CAM
  • From a machining background ideally

Specific job skills / abilities

  • Experienced Open Mind (Hypermill) 5-axis programming is essential
  • Able to program complex parts to very high standards
  • Vericut
  • Highly computer literate
  • Competent in operating CNC machine tools
  • Reading engineering drawings using the latest GD&T
  • Mechanical assembly
