Due to a dramatic increase in the order book for 2021 coupled with the desire to develop and improve the overall operational performance of the business, this established and long standing Manufacturing and Engineering business has grand ambitions for growth and development in the next 3 years. They have now created the brand new role of Manufacturing Operations Director to become a key part of the Senior Leadership Team reporting directly to the MD to take control of all aspects of this busy multi-division, multi-site production operation.

They are looking for an experienced Senior Manufacturing Operations professional who can develop the operations team and bring with them operational excellence to improve productivity, reduce lead-times, drive efficiency and improve product quality and customer service while improving the health and safety culture within the business. The Operations Director will be a key driver in the development of the business and will work closely with the MD and parent group to ensure best in class levels of production and customer satisfaction and will be responsible for the following;

Contribute to the overall strategy for the business as well as delivering the strategic operational objectives.
Improve the operational interaction of the business units and maximise both capacity and on time delivery across all areas.
Look at the supply chain operations from end to end in order to make the flow from materials / orders in through to delivery as effective as possible.
Plan and direct the activities of the operations teams to achieve agreed financial targets and performance standards.
Review and improve existing manufacturing processes and develop new innovative alternatives.
Work with the management team to identify a new ERP system and be the 'operations lead' for a successful implementation.
Work closely with colleagues to improve products, processes and productivity.
Evaluate new manufacturing technologies and Capex and be instrumental in the development of the business's operational capability.
Foster and maintain an inclusive, safe, 'customer focused' environment.
Develop strong teams in terms of skills, knowledge, capability, and capacity, reflecting the current and likely future business requirements.

This role is a true statutory Directorship opportunity and so the individual must be a fit and proper person in order to satisfy the governance requirements surrounding this and will have a strong mix of the following skills, experience and capabilities;

Ideally degree and/or professional qualification in a relevant discipline including Manufacturing, Production, Engineering, or Supply Chain.
Proven experience in a senior operations role within a low to medium volume manufacturing engineering environment.
Any metals based production / process knowledge. (Cutting, welding, coatings, finishing etc)
Solid end to end supply chain experience within a muti-customer project-based environment.
Able to make short-term decisions without sacrificing long-term objectives.
Providing leadership in a diverse environment, sometimes with competition for internal resources.
Technical knowledge and ability derived from working in an engineering environment.
Enthusiasm for problem-solving and continuous improvement.
A clear communicator at all levels with effective presentation and written skills.
Comfortable operating in a devolved group whilst appreciative of group requirements for shareholder value and robust corporate governance.
Collaborative and persuasive management style. A strong leader and team player displaying integrity and respect for others.
Energised, visible, communicative, committed to personal growth for themselves and others.
Resilient, problem-solving nature, tough-minded but displaying emotional intelligence.
