This long standing and highly regarded Defence engineering and manufacturing business based in the North West of England has an enviable reputation for both product quality manufacturing excellence across a wide variety of highly engineered components and systems for a variety of global Military and Defence customers.

With an enviable list of global customers and a varied product offering, the site Manufacturing Engineer for Assembly Integration and Test will be responsible for introducing and developing the AIT element for their main military vehicle program on site. The role will be responsible for ensure the effective transfer of AIT knowledge and production practices from our parent company to the shopfloor. The key deliverables around the role will be;


To transfer the knowledge and learning of the AIT production process from our parent company in Germany to the UK site. This will require a minimum of 2 - 3 months based at the HQ site in Germany learning the existing process.
Be present on the shopfloor and the focal point of knowledge for manufacturing engineering and tooling in the AIT area. Support the operators by enhancing their knowledge of the AIT process and parts. Lead and drive structured problem solving and process improvement activities during the ramp-up phase and onwards during stable production.
Coordinate cross-functional team activities to optimise cost performance, operating standards and minimising waste through line balancing and the development of a continuous improvement culture encompassing lean principles.
Provide design for manufacturing input at early stages in the product development process, coordinating with and supporting implement engineering changes to designs and developing effective processes to ensure manufacturability of product while maintaining quality, safety and environmental standards and cost targets.
Create required Standard Operations and work balance charts
Support project management in cross-functional activity required for project execution.
Ensure that Environmental, Health and Safety, manufacturing quality standards and procedures are adhered to.

The Manufacturing Engineer will have proven experience within a highly regulated manufacturing engineering environment such as; Defence, Aerospace, Nuclear or Oil & Gas and will have extensive experience within a low to medium volume high value manufacturing engineering environment. The ideal Manufacturing Engineering candidate will have a mix of the following skills and experience;

Ideally educated to a HND / Bachelor level or equivalent, in a Mechanical Engineering discipline
Previous exposure to MOD / Military / Defence related manufacturing / engineering environments
Technical skill set developed in complex engineering environments
Successful track record of manufacturing excellence
Experience in a similar role within an industrial or technical environment
Understanding of Engineering Change processes.
Experienced in operating within complex organisations
Planning experience using SAP and Ideally Trained in SAP
Structuring BOMs from Drawing to Manufacture
