Health & Safety Lead

I am currently seeking a Health & Safety Lead to support the implementation of the HSMS across my clients distribution centres. This includes providing advice and support to managers and employees as well as supporting H&S improvements and initiatives to ensure a safety and healthy work environment across all UK operations.
Health & Safety Lead Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular safety checks, hold behavioural conversations at all levels, updating safety log.
  • Inspect all areas of the business on a month to month basis, issuing reports to management, updating the corrective action and preventative (CAPA) action log.
  • Lead investigations into accidents and incidents identifying corrective, preventative, and causation factors, updating site incident log and addressing any actions that have been assigned to the H&S Coordinator in a timely fashion.
  • Always adhere to the requirements of the site safety management system
  • Inform senior site management (Head of Production / Senior Ops Mgr / Duty Ops Mgr) of significant incidents as soon as reasonably practicable to do so, also keeping the UK Operations Head of Health & Safety informed
  • Audit the implementation of the company HSMS, issuing reports and recommendations for improvement to the UK Operations teams.
  • Lead site based reviews of outstanding risk assessment actions, booking meetings with stakeholders to review actions and assisting or offering advice where necessary on completion.
  • Take ownership of site H&S communications processes
  • Keep up to date with new HSE legislation and industry best practice
  • Work with the Head of H&S on the delivery of ergonomic risk assessments and the delivery of COSHH across UK Operations
  • General administration tasks related to the HSMS


You will be expected to act as point of contact for staff and management at site level, for site safety champion group and hold monthly meetings to review site performance. This involves, committee meetings, preparing and issuing meeting minutes. Working closely with the Ops. Development, HR, Facilities and Maintenance teams to ensure H&S is being delivered and regularly reviewed. This will require promoting a strong H&S culture, engaging staff in safe practice and creating and delivering training packages.
As Health & Safety Lead you will also be required to advise site management team on safety processes, the safety management systems, changes, accident investigation, best practice and all general safety enquiries. Develop procedures and safe systems of work when and as required, work across functions to ensure these are trained out.
Must have:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft office (word / excel / PowerPoint)
  • Experience in a warehouse / food manufacturing / logistics environment
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent
  • Outgoing, positive personality
  • Experience in leading and influencing a team
  • Ideally have experience in delivering H&S training
  • Ideally have experience in performing ergonomic risk assessments
  • Understanding of human factors
