Are you an experienced Manufacturing Operations professional who has extensive Fabrication and metals based manufacturing knowledge, both from a hands on and strategic perspective? Are you able to run the day to day Fabrication operations of a multi-site precision engineered metals based manufacturing and engineering organisation and develop not only its processes but also its capable teams while reporting to the UK MD.
This 3 site business based in the West Midlands has grown through both organic development and acquisition over the last ten years and is now at around a £10M TO in 2020. The business has both extensive investment as well as ambitious growth plans and is very much in an acquisitive stage of its development with the potential of 3 sites becoming 5 in the next 12 months and with plans to double its TO in the same time period.
Supplying into many different sectors including; Automotive, Aerospace, Oil & Gas, Industrial and Nuclear, there is a wide and varied customer and product base and so the potential for growth is extensive over the next 5 years with the longer term ambition for the business to be producing in excess of £50M in revenue. The role will involve the day to day leadership of all aspects of the companies Fabrication businesses and supporting the strategic growth and development of this area of the organisation as it moves forward.
The Group Fabrication Director will be responsible for all aspects of the Fabrication business across 3 sites and will be a key member of the senior leadership team and the daily responsibilities will include;
Ensuring that all goods and services are produced safely, cost-effectively and on time and that they meet the required quality standards.
Overseeing the production process, coordinating production activities and operations, using company's MRP system.
Reporting on all aspects of performance and delivery to the UK MD / The Group Board.
Being part of the company's leadership team and working together with other company's managers on implementing the company's policies and goals.
Leading and motivating a fabrication team of more than 25 staff and structuring the team so that it can continue to grow.
Planning and managing the shift patterns required across the different sites.
Checking works orders, liaising with purchasing and deciding on the resources/materials that are required and ensure stock levels remain adequate.
Updating customers with information on time in full in relation to current orders in production and striving to achieve 100% customer satisfaction.
Working within and assisting in implementation of company Health and Safety procedures and ensuring that the health & safety guidelines are followed at all times.
Providing hands-on support and technical experience to staff as required.
Assisting in introducing and developing the company's planning and scheduling system.
Identifying recruitment needs, candidate interviewing, disciplinaries, performance management.
The ideal candidate will have a strong mix of the following skills and experience;
A solid mix of hands on technical fabrication / metals based manufacturing and engineering skills, coupled with a strategic mindset which enables them to develop and grow this part of the business in line with the companies strategic targets.
A sound understanding of Lean / Continuous improvement tools and methodologies in order to constantly improve and develop the delivery and quality of the business.
Prior experience of leading teams of 30+ staff, ideally across multiple sites.
Forthright personality and approach, able to give directions, guide and motivate shop floor workers and keep fabrication processes under control.
Computer literate and being experience of working with ERP / MRP systems
Liaison and coordination with department managers and the MD to ensure that all client deadlines are met at all times.
Experienced with implementing Health and Safety policies within fabrication and manufacturing environments.
The ability to read and fully understand technical engineering drawings and experience in Computer Aided Design (CAD) is an advantage but not essential.
Fully experienced in bending and forming sheet metal and tube.
Good customer facing and one to one problem solving skills are essential.
Working knowledge of Press brakes, laser cutting and tube bending equipment and ability to manage paint specification finishes.
