Gleeson Recruitment Group are currently partnering with a market leading business in Loughborough in search of a Financial Controller. This is a new position that offers great progression opportunities as well as fantastic exposure to unique and exciting projects to the West Midlands region. They require an ambitious, technically-minded accountant to join their business to support across a variety of functions. This is an exciting position that will allow the successful individual to progress to executive positions later in their career and have tangible influence of the company's future strategy.

The Role

As Financial Controller you will report into the head of the team and is responsible for the following:

  • Ensure a robust and appropriate internal control environment proactively identifying higher risk areas and working to ensure targeted improvements are implemented and sustained as well as ensuring timely and thorough follow-up of issues identified during internal/external audit reviews.
  • Own a regular balance sheet review process to ensure balances are appropriate, in accordance with Group policies, and that consideration is given to whether appropriate reserves are held for contingent liabilities.
  • Owner of the site Finance Shared Services relationship, proactively identifying opportunities to transfer additional activities into the Finance Shared Services Centres whilst also ensuring that both sites and FSSC meet their service level commitments and deliver a high quality, cost effective service to the Group.
  • Be the technical finance leader for the sites, working closely with Division & Group Controlling to understand the impact of new accounting standards or Group policies and ensuring that divisional reporting is compliant with these. Be a reference point for Finance staff across the sites on technical questions.
  • Work with the Commercial and Legal functions to ensure a robust and appropriate organisation, process and systems structure exists to support current and expected future contracting obligations.
  • Ensure all capitalisation requests for R&D or other programme participation costs are well prepared and supported by relevant information and explanations. Support production of quarterly impairment tests to ensure a robust and effective local review has been prepared and, where relevant, that appropriate recovery plans have been put in place to deliver the previously approved business case.
  • Deliver an effective risk management process which meets Group and divisional requirements, including conducting reviews and workshops to identify risks and mitigation plans.
  • Ensure the site complies with Tax & Treasury requirements, including having appropriate hedging in place for foreign currency exposures and liaison around tax obligations
  • Own the site delegation of authority matrix, ensuring appropriate authorities are delegated to product group and site management whilst remaining compliant with Group policies.
  • Own and lead the Internal and External Audit reviews and compliance

The Requirements

The ideal candidate for this Financial Controller role would ideally be a qualified accountant who is looking to make their second move since moving from practice:

  • Qualified accountant - ACA/ACCA/CIMA.
  • Strong ability to business partner & influence stakeholders.
  • Experience within new projects within the manufacturing space.
  • Experience in managing/supervising direct reports.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to interpret financials into meaningful business recommendations.
  • Ideally studied accountancy at university level.
