Gleeson Recruitment Group are currently supporting a fantastic FMCG business based in Birmingham who are recruiting for a qualified accountant (ACA,ACCA,CIMA) to join them as Financial Controller. The role sits within a key division of a larger group and has become available due to expansion and internal promotion.

The overall purpose of the role is to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the finance function, ensuring that finance adds maximum value to the division through the timely provision of accurate information and actionable insights to the senior management team. The role offers a fantastic package as well as large amounts of flexibility including the option to work 4 days at home and 1 in the office if desirable.

Key Duties: Financial Controller, Birmingham, £60,000

Business Partnering and Insight

  • Key business partner to the Operations Director / Senior Manager - must be able to build credibility and trust very quickly with the gravitas to drive and influence the right behavior across the business
  • Constructively challenges business performance in a measured and considered manner
  • Provide the leadership team early insight into performance gap through financial & operational analysis
  • Financial modelling of key scenarios
  • Liaising daily with the management across divisions in order to establish plans & implement them effectively

Leadership / Management

  • Lead, motivate and develop the finance team to be a high performing team
  • Proactive, leading by example
  • Able to prioritise and manage workload effectively whilst managing expectations
  • Communicate, liaise & escalate issues with the Operational Director, Senior Manager and Head of Finance

Reporting / Forecasting

  • Responsible for reviewing and signing off on dailies and bridging produced by the management accountants and their teams
  • Review of weekly reconciliations produced by the finance teams, and responsible for weekly close and submissions into SAP
  • Responsible for month-end close in Navision as well as all reconciliations
  • Production of the monthly balance sheet pack, cash flow forecast and risks and opportunities
  • Support the preparation of the divisional budgeting and forecasting process
  • Preparation & presentation of financial information required by division

Internal Control

  • Ensure financial controls are in place, fit for purpose and functioning as expected and that monthly/weekly reporting accurately reflects the trading position
  • Review, approval and posting of journals
  • Review and sign-off purchase requisitions, challenging spend where appropriate

Key Skills & Experience: Financial Controller, Birmingham, £60,000

  • Qualified ACA, CIMA or ACCA with relevant PQE
  • Strategic thinker and commercially astute, with strong business awareness
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to generate insights from data / information, enabling users to have a clear understanding of business performance in order to make informed decisions
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills which will enable the individual to influence senior management and operational teams
  • Good negotiation and influencing skills
  • Proven leadership skills to drive and develop the finance team
  • Disciplined and organised
  • Experience of system improvements - able to develop new ways of working to streamline operations and remove non-value adding activities
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Microsoft Navision experience preferred / experience of using an ERP system
