THE ROLE

This is a high-profile Finance Director opportunity in North Somerset. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the FD of this high growth business unit, requires a demonstrated leader to partner with the MD and take the business through an exciting stage of organic growth. This is a crucial strategic role at the heart of the Company, taking full ownership of all financial aspects of the business.

Key responsibilities will include:

As a member of the local Operating Board and Executive team, advising the MD and Senior Management Team on all matters relating to financial performance.

Supporting the MD and Senior Management team to create and deliver growth strategies and plans

Critically appraising capital allocation choices, ensuring alignment with strategy and key performance metrics

Leading, motivating, and developing a strong finance team

Leading the budgeting, forecasting, and planning process

Maintaining a robust financial control environment, including development of financial systems

Leading on all financial and accountancy matters including month end reports, management accounts, cash flow management, compliance, presentation of management information and KPI's

Delivering the statutory external audit

Leading on IT, including ensuring a robust IT control environment along with successful system implementations/ upgrades as required

CANDIDATE PROFILE

For this Finance Director opportunity in North Somerset, you will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with significant post qualification experience. The successful candidate must be commercially astute, have high intellect and low ego, with strong influencing skills and significant drive and energy and a can-do attitude. You must have a history of success in commercially focused senior finance roles and ideally a track record of supporting a business through growth. You must also have a good balance of strategic vision and hands on operating style.

Ideally you will have experience of working at an FD level and being part of an operating board. They are also open to considering candidates looking to make that first step up into a FD position, with the opportunity to affect real change and to contribute to the direction of the company. Leading the finance function in a growing SME is desirable and you must have had end to end operational finance responsibility.

The sector you come from is of less importance than your skills and experience, but prior experience in an innovative tech-led business and a sustainable development focus will be advantageous. Broad business knowledge will also be important and an enthusiasm for innovation, continuous improvement and problem solving.

An ability to manage complex and diverse environments will also be important, and the ability to be proactive, decisive, and adaptable. Also, a commitment to growth and development, personally and for colleagues.

Ideally you will also have prior involvement with a system implementation. First-hand experience of implementing a stock and manufacturing system would be advantageous.
