This is a high-profile appointment working for a recently reorganised autonomous business group in the Midlands, bringing together several strong individual business brands. As part of the Executive Leadership Team, there is the opportunity to transform and grow this group, and with further progression available across the wider PLC Group, which has a real focus on career and talent development.

The Role

This is a high-profile Finance Director (FD) opportunity in the West Midlands. Reporting directly to the Managing Director (MD), the FD of this business group is a crucial strategic and operational role at the heart of the business. Working closely with the MD and the rest of the Executive Leadership Team, the FD will assume full responsibility for all aspects of the company. This involves analysing financial performance, advising the senior management team on these findings, and implementing recommendations to drive profitable growth for the business. Accountable for the day-to-day financial operations and long-term strategy, key responsibilities will include:

  • As a member of the local operating board and executive team, advising the MD and senior management team on all matters relating to financial performance
  • Supporting the senior team to create growth strategies and plans including capital allocation decisions
  • Leading, motivating and developing a strong finance team
  • Leading the budgeting, forecasting, planning and reporting processes
  • Ensuring a robust financial control and compliance environment is maintained, including responsibility for finance systems development
  • Overall lead on all financial and accountancy matters
  • Accountable for delivering the statutory external audit
  • Responsibility for IT development and supporting the implementation of a new ERP system

Candidate Profile

For this Finance Director opportunity in the West Midlands, you will be a graduate calibre qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA), preferably (but not necessarily) from a manufacturing/contracting background, with experience of leading a finance function. The role requires an individual who has the strength of character to challenge whilst being able to do so in a collegiate and considered manner. It is also important that you are comfortable leading change, capable of influencing at all levels and understand what a best-in class finance function looks like. Allied to this, ideally you will have hands-on experience of ERP systems and some prior involvement with an implementation.

You will need to demonstrate a strong commercial acumen and the ability to contribute to strategic discussions and support the long-term growth potential. The ability to produce clear and concise narrative will be essential.

A successful track record in establishing high performing finance teams will also be important, and an ability to manage complex and diverse environments, whilst still promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
