The key purpose of the Customs Officer is to implement relevant processes and procedures which will allow the company to import goods from the EU. A candidate with 3 - 5 years of international logistics exposure, foreign trade and customs would be preferential as would a formal HMRC qualification. You will need to communicate at all levels internally but also with your client base whilst discussions and clarification with customs authorities will be paramount. The primary responsibilities of the Customs Officer include;
- Implement customs-relevant processes and procedures;
- Implement IPR (Inward Processing Relief) processes;
- Classify materials into customs classifications;
- Be responsible for customs paperwork & carrier-related transport papers;
- Set up and review customs groups
