Business Development Manager
My client is open to either contract or PAYE staff. If PAYE then engagement would initially be on a probationary basis with permanent appointment being determined by results achieved. A salary of up to £75'000 pa is on offer, plus company car as representing approximate market rate.
An exciting opportunity is available for an Business Development Manager to join a growing company who are established within the Rail and Energy T&D Industry, and are now looking for a Business Development Manager to assist the Operations Manager in winning new work and projects Located in Derbyshire, this well regarded company are offering an attractive salary and package for the right professional.
It is necessary you have experience winning new business within any of the following areas, preferably within Renewable energy and/or private networks. :
- Transmission networks enhancements and asset renewals;
- DNO networks enhancements and asset renewals;
- DNO contestable works;
- Oil & gas;
- Renewable energy;
- Private networks
The key requirement for any person joining our team in a sales / business development role is that they bring with them a solid network of contacts they can tap into to quickly generate opportunities to tender for work which may not otherwise be advertised in the open market. Buyers in organisations such commercial property management, facilities management and renewable energy property development companies will typically have a shortlist of preferred suppliers who they will contact direct with new requirements. A business development person joining our team would need to be able to leverage their network of contacts get us onto those shortlists.
The right person will therefore have substantial experience in a sales / business development role focusing on these sectors. Job title is not important. You may have been called a Commercial Manager, Business Development Manager, Tendering Manager etc in the past. What is important is that the person has experience of taking lead responsibility for winning new work, from generating new leads and opportunities through to preparing bid documents and estimating for tender submissions.
In order to have gained this experience the right person will have worked for a power distribution engineering contractor which has successfully gone through the stages of market entry and initial growth we are navigating and established themselves in the market. This might be larger company such as Morrison Utility Services, Freedom Group / NG Bailey, Smith Brothers, SPEC etc, or perhaps more realistically a company somewhere between our size and that of the bigger players.
Experience of other sectors such as DNO contestable works and / or oil & gas in additional to our key targets sectors of renewable energy and private networks would of course be a bonus.
The right person is going to be results driven, hungry for a new challenge and confident enough in their own ability to generate new work that they're happy to take the personal risk of jumping ship for new small company such as ours. At the same time we'd be wary of someone who has jumped around too frequently because if they've been selling to their network of contacts a new employer every five minutes this is likely to have damaged the credibility of their sales pitch.
